Raising some money for Cancer Research

We did it!

Our walk started at the National Trust car park at Bosherton.
.

We walked around the lily ponds and went to Stackpole Quay and back to Bosherton.

We got a lot of strange looks as we made our way around

Stackpole is one of Wales's richest nature reserves, with an important designed landscape at its heart. This walk takes in lakes, woods, beaches, dunes and cliffs. The lakes were created 200 years ago as a backdrop to Stackpole Court – a great house demolished in 1963 – and have since become a precious wildlife habitat. It is an exciting walk in all seasons, with wildfowl on the lakes in winter and breeding seabirds on Stackpole Head in summer. Barafundle regularly appears in lists of the world's most beautiful beaches.

Shiny Happy Janet (Day 22)

The bathroom is practically finished – there is just the mirror to fit, that will be done sometime next week,  and the curtains which I still have to find.
When the plumber came this morning I confessed to leaving a footprint in his flooring.  Also said I hadn’t figured out how to open the cabinet – I know that nowI don't know smile
I’ve spent a while going back and just looking at the finished room.

I’ll put the photo with the mirror on next week when that bit is complete.

& I'm waiting for someone to comment on the title -

Mosaics (day 20)

I’m now into the fourth week of bathroom work – week one was only the Thursday & Friday when the builder was there, then two weeks up to last Thursday with the plumber working.

Today the mosaic tiles have been put onto place, all the grouting has been done and I have some of the floor tiles down.

The floor is more grey in real life.

I still can’t get to my table – the boxes of tiles have gone now but the washbasin, shower screen, bath panel and box of taps & other accessories are still next to the table, with the cabinet between them and the door into the kitchen.

Easter Weekend

The four day Easter weekend meant that there was no work going on in my bathroom.

I did go looking for some voile for the curtains but haven’t found any as yet.  I made two shopping trips to get towels & finally chose some on my second excursion.   The first shopping trip was rather taken over by my niece insisting that my sister bought a hat and matching bag for her “mother of the bride” outfit.  I was of the opinion that it is too early to be buying yet – the wedding will be in August next year.   My niece also went shopping with my sister to look at wedding dresses – as they haven’t made a final decision it won’t be what she is wearing for the sponsored walk -  "The Brides and Grooms!"

My sister and mother are obviously colour-blind as they kept insisting that my old bathroom was pink and couldn’t imagine why I was so set against purple towels.

I’m looking forward to seeing how different it all looks when it is finished.

Day 15–End of the week report

All of the white tiles are now fixed, the spaces are ready for the mosaic tiles which have been set in long strips ready to be slotted into place.  I don’t think I’ve mentioned the colour I chose for the mosaics.   They will be in vertical strips – one on each side of the radiator/heated towel rail,  and one on the wall opposite above the bath.

The recess here has been tiled and has lights fitted into it – watch this space for the next step.

I’m considering getting some new towels – can’t decide what colour to go for – someone suggested purple & my answer was most definitely NO!!!!

Tomorrow is the first day of the Easter break, so there are four days to wait until work starts again on the bathroom.

Day 14 More Tiles and WOYWW

The work continues and now the room is almost all tiled.

P1010543

For the last couple of weeks I have been unable to reach my table – there were 14 boxes of plain tiles, four boxes containing components of the toilet and washbasin, one pack of floor tiles, a shower screen, some coloured mosaic tiles, a box of taps and other accessories, a bag of plumbing supplies and (for the last few days) a cabinet.   The bath, radiator, shower, ceiling panels and various pieces of wood have been randomly moving around and coming to rest at various times in the bathroom or the spare bedroom or on the stairs.

So this week I have managed to photograph some bracelets that I have been making, along with this week’s purchase – the purses are full of assorted beads for another project which I will attempt over the Easter weekend.

Day 12–Progress on a very cold day.

Today the bath & radiator are both fitted (although the radiator will come down again so the tiling can be done)  I’ve also collected the cabinet & the grab rail was delivered.   The next jobs are the flooring and the tiling – & apparently I will be surprised at how quickly things progress from now on.

Days 10 and 11–A snowy weekend

It’s the weekend so there is no progress on the bathroom.  I only needed to sort out a curtain pole and curtains – I managed the curtain pole as although the snow was still falling it wasn’t bad underfoot.  Sunday was a different matter though as there was a lot of ice around and it was difficult walking.

Monday morning – still bitterly cold and only the main roads through town are clear.  One of the main roads out of town is blocked, plus a couple of the smaller roads.  Most of the side streets are “iffy” at best.  Sadly there was a report of a man being found quite near here, on Saturday morning – it seems that he had been walking home on Friday night.

The forecast for the week is that it will be cold with “biting” easterly winds and a possibility of snow showers.   Hope the plumber manages to make his way up here.

My friend was supposed to be visiting for the weekend – I had told her I didn’t know what state the bathroom would be in, but she didn’t mind “roughing it”.  The weather made us decide to postpone the visit, so hopefully the bathroom will be sparkling when she finally arrives.  Although I do have plans to work on the kitchen – it would be just our luck that the next visit is planned in the middle of that work.

Day 9–End of the week report

It’s Friday, & this morning winter returned to a lot of the country.  We have had snow falling all day and it has been very windy.  However a lot of the snow has been quite wet and has not left large drifts here.  There is more forecast overnight and tomorrow so conditions may get worse.

This was this morning - there is quite a bit more snow now

The bathroom now has a ceiling

The pipes are fitted for the bath and shower, but the bath is still leaning against the wall.

My cabinet has still not arrived Sad smile

Tomorrow – depending on the state of the weather – I may try and find a curtain pole and some voile.  I’m thinking of using some of my beads to make tie backs for the curtains.  I will have a look for ideas for that.

Day 8 No more purple

This morning the plumber told me that he intended plasterboarding the walls and fitting the ceiling.

I could tell as soon as I got home that there had been a change of plans – I spotted something purple in the skip.    The box of ceiling panels on the stairs were the second clue.

Day 7 Lights……….fan……….bath

I have new lights and a fan in the bathroom now.   Most of the rest of the things have arrived, there are stacks of boxes downstairs (tiles, washbasin, toilet, flooring and various accessories) there are ceiling panels & copper pipes on the stairs and a bath in the bathroom.  The new lights and fan are fitted and working – a lot has been done today. I haven’t got the cabinet yet – but you can see where it is going to fit.

What a difference from this time last week Smile

Day 5–Snow

This morning the weather gadget on my laptop informed me that it was cold but sunny.  A quick glance outside and I soon realised that the gadget was mistaken -  it could have been the amount of snow falling that gave me the clue.  My first thought was that since I am in a rather hilly part of the country would the plumber be able to negotiate the side streets to reach here?

Fortunately he did arrive and so when I got home after work most of the old tiles have been removed, the radiator has gone and the walls are ready for new plasterboard.

I still haven’t decided which end to have the bath taps, and I have to find a grab rail as well.

Days 3 & 4 - Weekend - Just sorting a few things

Saturday,

No change to the bathroom today, just a bit of shopping – the new cabinet is ordered.

I have a few decisions to make – which end do I want the bath taps?  My old bath had the taps at the opposite end to the shower.  So do I stick with that or not?

Sunday,

A snowy morning, I am glad I sorted the cabinet out yesterday, so that I will not need to traipse around searching today.  Hopefully everything else is sorted ready for tomorrow.  Today I shall sort out the spare bedroom cupboard that had to be emptied when the builders were removing the chimney (after I complete the dog walking task)

Day 2 - Something is missing…….

This is how my bathroom looked this morning when I left for work

& this is what I found when I got home.

P1010510P1010511P1010512
Today I have made the final decisions on the new suite, tiles, taps and accessories, & ordered them from Harp Ceramics.  The bathroom will be fitted by "probably the best tiler in the world!"

Tomorrow I have to try and find either a cabinet or a mirror that I like.  The problem is I have a certain idea - & once I am so definite about it I can never find something that is exactly how I imagined it.  It needs to fit with my choice of bathroom suite and other accessories - but more about those later as the bathroom develops.
The funny thing is that my bathroom always looked narrow.  Now without the bath it looks wider. The flat wall at the end instead of the chimney and alcove has also made it seem shorter - that should be just an illusion as the purpose of removing the chimney was to create the space for a normal sized bath. (& one that is not lilac )
